My name is Clare Hyslop and I aim to create surface patterns that bring joy, warmth, and a touch of magic to the everyday

I believe our surroundings profoundly affect our mood and creativity — and I’m passionate about crafting designs that bring joy and lightness to the day.

My collections are inspired by two main themes that often intertwine:

Nature.. the quiet beauty of the natural world around us.

I’m a budding gardener and our little family are keen campers, happiest under trees or by a river, waking up to the birds and the rhythms of nature. My designs aim to bring this calm, grounded beauty into our homes and lives.

Celtic heritage & myth.. my Irish roots and love of Celtic mythology

Exploring the ancient celtic stories through the digital tools of surface pattern design has been a joyful journey. I’ve studied the knotwork techniques of the scribes behind the Books of Kells, Lindisfarne, and Durrow, recreating their original methods and weaving my own designs and motifs into modern patterns. Each one carries its own story, adding depth and meaning to its beauty.

Like many creatives, my path here wasn’t a straight line. I started out studying Art and Architecture, but a steady career in Finance took over — and for many years, I worked in corporate roles while raising a young family. As much as I enjoyed those roles, I felt the pull to return to my creative roots and live more intentionally.

Discovering surface pattern design was a revelation — it brought together everything I love in one place. I took a leap of faith, left my finance job, and immersed myself in courses by Bonnie Christine and Mel Armstrong. I haven’t looked back since.
